               For Those Going on Lick Field Trip
                     Wednesday, October 16

Meet in parking lot at East Field House.
We will leave at 3pm, arriving at Mt. Hamilton around 5pm.
Expected return time is midnight, depending on weather (clear or cloudy).
There will be a tour of the observatory, followed by viewing through the
36 inch refractor after sunset.

It can be cold on Mt. Hamilton.  Bring warm clothing.
Bring something to eat for dinner.
Gift shop will be open.  It takes checks, cash, credit cards.

           Directions to Mt. Hamilton

Lick Observatory is located on the summit of Mt. Hamilton in the Diablo Range 
east of San Jose.  To get there from Santa Cruz, take Highway 17 to 280 South,
From 280 (which turns into 680), take Alum Rock Avenue exit east.  Stay on 
Alum Rock to Mt. Hamilton Road (California Route 130) and turn right. Allow  
about one hour from San Jose, and please drive carefully as the road is good, 
but winding.  When you reach the stop sign close to the top, turn right to the 
very top and park in the parking lot by the main building (the one you saw as 
you were driving up).  Maps are available at:
