This year Lick Observatory will again host what has become an annual tradition on Mt. Hamilton. The Observational Astronomy Workshop is intended to provide an introduction to observing, and is open to entering first year University of California graduate students.

Based upon feedback from past participants, the workshop has been expanded to 5 days and is scheduled later in the school year. Dates are November 1 - November 5, 2012. Number of participants is limited to 20.

The workshop will be run by the Lick Support Astronomers, featuring hands-on experience with the Kast spectrograph on the Shane telescope,
the Hamilton spectrograph on the Coude Auxiliary Telescope (CAT), and
direct imaging with the Nickel 1-m reflector.

Participants will be accommodated iin the new and old dorms. Rooms are
doubles or triples with shared baths.

Most if not all of the travel costs and food will be covered by UCO/Lick Davidson Funds. Participants might be asked to help in food preparation.

Deadline for workshop registration is October 7, 2012.

Please direct questions to Xavier Prochaska (xavier@ucolick.org) or one of the
Support Astronomers: Elinor Gates (egates@ucolick.org) or Paul Lynam (plynam@ucolick.org).
