The public is invited to an evening celebrating key astronomical events2009 marks the 400th year of the telescope and the 50th anniversary of Lick Observatory's Shane telescope. The Automated Planet Finder (APF) is also being commissioned this year at Lick Observatory. UCO is pleased to present the inaugural James Lick Award to Mr. and Mrs. Ken and Gloria Levy, whose generous gift helped complete the APF. Date: September 26, 2009 Activities: Tour of Lick Observatory, strolling dinner, lecture by extrasolar planetary researcher Geoff Marcy, presentation of the James Lick Award and (weather permitting) observing with the telescopes. Shuttle transportation from San Jose will be available to those who indicated interest with their RSVP RSVP requested by Monday, September 14, 2009 |
