medusa: mini-supercomputer
Silicon Graphics Power Challenge
All users should back up important files on medusa disks to tape
or onto another machine. Medusa is having hardware problems
and has been unstable. No global backups are being made due to
policy and problems with our tape drive. You have been warned.
Hardware description ( November 16, 1998 )
- 12 MIPS R10000 processors
- 1.64 MB memory, 1-way interleaved
- 1/2 MB secondary cache
- 2 GB system disk
- 4 GB scratch disk at /scr (see /scr/README for scratch policy)
Security Issues
Please use "ssh" and "slogin" in place of rsh, rlogin, rcmd, and telnet. xhost should not be used and is now disabled.

- F77 compiler: f77

- EGCS(gnu) compilers:gcc,g++,g77
- Workshop Development enviroment includes cvd, cvcov, cvbuild, cvperf, cvspeed, cvxcov, etc.
- HDF v4.0r2 (installed at /opt/HDF)
- GNU software: gzip, gmake, gcc, gdb, emacs (v. 20.3), xemacs (v. 20.4)
- Parallel processing tools: MPI library: mpich(/opt/mpich).
Maximum of one job at normal priority per user. Additional jobs can be
submitted at lower priority using the local command Nice. Or otherwise
change the priority of your jobs to 5 by "renice -n 15 ". Check
with top.
