Field Definitions for table UGCgal


If the database maintainer has set up a data dictionary, then this form will show information defining and explaining each field in the table UGCgal. When an asterisk appears following the column data type (like int *) this indicates that this column is indexed in the database server for faster searches.

RAMreal Right Ascension Minutes, 1950.0
DecDint *Declination Degrees, 1950.0
DecMint Declination (arc)Minutes, 1950.0
MCGnumchar Morphological Catalog of Galaxies number (Vorontsov-Velyaminorv et al 1962-68). Consists of POSS zone followed by POSS field followed by the MCG ID (this is 000 if this galaxy is not in the MCG).
POSSfldint Number of the POSS field in which this galaxy is best visible.
MajAxisBreal Major axis as measured in the POSS blue print, in arcmin
MinAxisBreal MInor axis as measured in the POSS blue print, in arcmin
PosAngleint Position angle (measured north to east per convention)
Classchar Hubble classification code or comment.
Vphotreal Photographic magnitude
RadVelint Radial velocity corrected for solar motion relative to Local Group, in km/sec
MajAxisRreal Major axis as measured on POSS red plate, in arcmin
MinAxisRreal Minor axis as measured on POSS red plate, in arcmin
Inclinint Inclination to the line of sight for spirals, from 1 (face on) to 7 (edge on). The value 7 indicates an object inclined not more than a few degrees to the line of sight.
