We're working on extensions, modules, plugins, call them what you will, for the DS9 image display tool from Harvard CFA. DS9 is implemented using Tcl/Tk so it's admirably hackable, er, that is, "it facilitates cost-effective customization," or whatever sleazy sales talk you prefer. The bottom line is that DS9 has the power of a late-model FITS image viewer, without the rigidity and black-boxiness traditional in such tools. The end-users can make it look and behave as they prefer.

It was the work of just a couple of days to add this crude little stats box to DS9. See the source code if you want to know more. This experimental module is called ds9stats. It uses the nascent "ds9.tlib" (this is a TclX naming convention for a library of Tcl procs) which you can find in the same place.

See the Image Capture Diagram for an overview of the image capture system we plan for DEIMOS. It is somewhat altered from the architecture we used for ESI. Notably, lickserv has been split into two independent process (instead of a parent and a forked child) and you can see the hoped-for NOAO Message Bus lurking off to the right. We would like to preserve the shmem segment as the central shared location of the incoming image.
