The ESI Spectrograph Online Documentation

Big Picture of service esi
The are accessible directly, or . . .
We also offer some graphical documentation -- conceptual roadmaps of the ESI software and design. For example, there is the simple diagram showing the port connections and numbers for the esi control system.

The drawings listed below are more complex. In them, you can click on text labels to locate more information in the reference manuals. You can see the whole thing at once, or each drawing individually. In the big integrated drawing, we've colour-coded these individual drawings:

  1. esi.dca.figdisp : black
  2. ESI.focus.proposal : red
  3. ESI.hardware.conn : blue
  4. esi.init : green
  5. esi.init.dispatcher : magenta
  6. esi.init.figdisp : cyan
  7. esi.init.infoman : gold
  8. esi.init.lickserv : purple
  9. esi.init.traffic : turquoise
  10. esi.init.watch_ccd : pink

These are easier to view, but you can see esi as One Big Picture (if you have the patience to load a big GIF file).

There is also a set of Browsable Source Tree Drawings with links to the documentation embedded in the source tree.

The Observer documents are hand-written. The Technical Documents are produced from plain text files in the CVS source tree by some Tcl scripts written at UCO/Lick Observatory. The Reference Documents are mostly generated by software from data in a relational database. Individual authors are responsible for the content of the Observer and Technical Documentation. The Lick SPG as a whole is responsible for the content of the Reference doco. Send mail to de@ucolick.org to report inconsistencies or errors in the documentation.
