Hello! The picture above is me. For more photos of me and my very cute cat see photopage (and for more photos goto photopage #2).
I'm a graduate student at the University of New Mexico in the Institute for Astrophysics working on my PhD in Astrophysics (well technically Physics, since they don't give an astrophysics degree even though it is the Department of Physics and Astronomy). I'm in my sixth (and final!) year as a graduate student and busy trying not to be a professional student. I've worked on a number of projects, the most important of which are developing new Adaptive Optics Technologies at the Phillips Laboratory and using Surface Brightness Fluctuations of Elliptical Galaxies to find their distances (my dissertation projcet). I have accepted a job as a support scientist at Lick Observatory and will start working there later this spring.
In addition to being a graduate student I am Treasurer, Database Manager, and WWW Manager for The Albuquerque Astronomical Society, an incorporated non-profit organization devoted to amateur and professional astronomy and public education.
What do I do in my free time? Well I don't have much free time since I'm a graduate student, but when I find the time I do like to do world traveling, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping, fencing, photography, singing, reading, AD&D, knitting, playing bridge, e-mail, MUSHing, etc..
I have made time in my schedule to sing with the madrigal group Quodlibet. On occasion I have solos, ranging from tenor parts to 1st soprano. This spring I will be singing 1st soprano in a quintet for Byrd's Justorum Animae.
Speaking of traveling, I went to Alaska for two weeks (May 15 to May 31, 1996).
I took over 500 photos while there and have selected some of the best and most
interesting to post. See my Alaska page.
