About our style

The UCSC Shotokan Karate Club studies traditional Japanese karate as standardized by the Japan Karate Association (JKA), a worldwide organization group with many collegiate and private clubs throughout the U.S.

We welcome both beginners and experienced students.

This is a traditional martia l arts style, not a contact sport - you won't actually hit people or get hit. You will, however, get a comprehensive full-body workout that includes stretching and building strength. You will learn body dynamics, increase self confidence, relieve stress and get fit!

For more information on the JKA style of Shotokan Karate, please visit the JKA of Silicon Valley, which offers both great web resources and a very good dojo to study JKA Karate in the Bay Area, or the JKA Headquarters.
