In response to Kelly Antonic's letter dated 4/4/2005: The modern formulation of Darwin's theory of evolution through natural selection does an excellent job of explaining the diversity of life on our planet. It is also incomplete; still, it is far and away the best explanation to be found in the scientific literature. Moreover, it makes predictions that are subject to verification, as any valid scientific theory must. As a result, it is possible that at some point in the future evidence will be discovered that forces fundamental changes to Darwin's theory -- or perhaps, unlikely as it may be, its abandonment. On the other hand, the "theory" of intelligent designed espoused by creationists cannot be falsified. It is indistinguishable from evolution save for the moment of creation, about which evolution through natural selection says little, if anything. As a result, it cannot be used to make a prediction subject to falsification. Thus, is it not a scientific theory, and it is certainly not the equal of the modern formulation of Darwin's theory of evolution through natural selection. It follows then that it has no place in secondary school science classes.
