Hello,
Black holes are a very complicated, and I could type for hours and only
give the broadest overview of black holes. I would suggest that you read
the book by Stephen hawking, "A Brief History of Time." This is a very
well-written book that most non-astronomers seem to understand. Hawking
spends a lot time in the book describing black holes and what is known
about them. There is also an FAQ site on black holes from scientist Ted
Bunn at the Univeristy of California Berkeley:

Thanks for writing!
