I saw a bright light streak across the sky. What was it?

Hello, Mark,

It sounds like you saw a "fireball", which is another word for a very
bright meteor. They are not exceptionally rare and are usually visibly
once a day from any given spot, but since that means they could happen in
the daytime or late at night when everyone is sleeping, it is rare to see
one!

The American Meteor Association takes reports of very bright meteors like
what you saw, and every few months compiles a list on their website.
Their website is:

Thanks for writing,
