How do I calculate the average orbital velocity of the moon?

Hello,
I am responding to your question about the average orbital speed
of the moon. I would calculate it as velocity=distance/time,
where distance=2*pi*R, and R is the distance from the Earth to the
Moon (including the distances to the core of the moon and Earth -
their radii, is unnecessary). time would be one lunar month.

I do not know the size of the umbra for this eclipse, but I will
see what I can find out and try to get back to you!

Did your students get to observe the eclipse?

Regards,
Debra Fischer
