I don't think your chances of balancing an egg on its end are much
better at the vernal or autumnal equinox than they are at any other
time of year. Even if you happen to live exactly on the equator, and
choose the time of day when the Sun is exactly over your head, so that
the Sun's gravity pulls the egg up instead of sideways, there will
still be all kinds of other sideways forces on the egg, many of which
are larger.
For instance you'd want the moon to be either full or new at the same
time. Then there are breezes pushing the egg over; and is that table
you're using _exactly_ level? Is the yolk exactly centered in the
egg, so that it's capable of being stood on end? So if you really
want to try the experiment, I don't think you should wait for equinox.
Remember to keep a frying pan handy!
Best wishes,
-Neal.
