Hello,
There are literally thousands of discoveries that have been made with
telescopes - virtually everything that we know about astronomy was
discovered because of what has been seen through a telescope.
You can find the early history telescopes, and some of the most
important discoveries made by Galileo, at the following web site:
http://es.rice.edu/ES/humsoc/Galileo/Things/telescope.html
Also check out the web site of the Mt Wilson observatory:
http://www.mtwilson.edu/Education/
The web page of almost any observatory will talk of the science being done
there.
Thanks for writing,
