Den Haag
First: is the entrace to the courtyard of the Binnenhof
(Inner Court -- seat of Parliament).
Second is the Ridderzaal (Knight's Hall) in the Binnenhof.
Third is me next to the Hofvijver (Court Pond) and Binnenhof.
Fourth:
Here is Susan in the cafe at the
Mauritshuis (art museum).
We saw the "Rembrandt Zelf" (Rembrandt by Himself) exhibit,
which is the largest exhibit ever of Rembrandt's self-portraits.
My favorite paintings from the museum included
The garden of Eden with the fall of man,
Simeon praising Christ, and
Self portrait
as Apostle Paul.
Fifth:
Eating a haring (herring). It's like a sardine, but very big and slimy.
The taste lingers.
Scheveningen is Den Haag's seaside resort area.
It's a popular beach when the weather's warm enough to shed gloves.
The large beach house is the Kurhaus spa hotel, home of Europe's
largest casino.
Supposedly the pronunciation of this town's name was a standard test
during World War II to distinguish authentic native Dutch speakers
from German infiltrators.
Leiden - coming soon
Keukenhof
The Keukenhof ("Kitchen courtyard") in the spring -- perhaps the
most fabulous flower gardens in the world.
The Zomerhof, the new summer-season exhibition of the Keukenhof.
