Colloquium coffee, cookies, treats, etc. When it is your turn to perform cookie duty, purchase about $20-$25 of cookies, treats, snacks, veggies+dip, whatever. You will be reimbursed. Start your preparations NO LATER THAN 2:45pm (for cookies at 3:30; for an odd cookie-time/colloquium-time plan about 45 minutes accordingly). Sometimes it really does take that long to make all the coffee and get the tea water hot. Colloquium cookies should be set up in the upstairs lobby/interation area of the CfAO. The CfAO folks have been nice enough to offer their wonderful space to us; please respect it. Before you get started, move all their food/treats/cookies/sugar/etc out of colloquium-attendees' reach. Hot water: Fill the hot water heater to around the 30 cup line (where all the deposits stop, should be obvious). Put it on the countertop, plug it in, and make sure it's switched "ON" --- it should start making some noise pretty quickly. Do this first, as it takes a while to heat this much water. OR, you could just have people use the hot water dispensed by the CfAO's water cooler. Coffee: The goal is to make about 30 cups of coffee. Paula Towle of the CfAO lets us use their handy-dandy industrial-size coffee maker, so if you have problems she might be the person to ask. DO NOT USE THE CFAO'S COFFEE BEANS. Coffee beans that are specifically earmarked for colloquium are in the freezer. Carafes, filters, and other supplies are located in the cabinet under the counter, near the kitchen entrance (labeled as colloquium cookie supplies). Above the coffee maker in the cabinet, find a large pitcher and Paula's coffee-bean-scoop. Fill the pitcher with about 64-66 oz of water (just above the 2 qt line) USING THE CFAO's BOTTLED WATER (the cooler). Paula doesn't like to use tap water because it leaves deposits inside the coffee maker (like the deposits in the water heater). Don't put the water in the coffee maker yet. LEAVE THE POT ON THE MACHINE as it starts automatically (or should). With Paula's scoop, measure 5 scoops of beans into the grinder. Grind for 15-20 seconds. Place a filter in the basket and put the grounds in it. IMPORTANT: measure a SECOND 5 scoops of beans into the grinder, grind for 15-20 seconds, and place these grounds in the basket as well (this is because the grinder can't hold enough to make industrial-strength coffee). Once the basket is in place, now you can put the water in the top and the coffee maker should start up automatically (if it doesn't, try to turn it on). Go ahead and prepare another load of water in the pitcher, and another 10 scoops of coffee beans in a filter for the next batch. When the coffee maker is really and truly finished, empty the coffee pot into one of the colloquium serving carafes and make the next batch. Continue until both serving carafes are pretty much full. (Should be about 3 pots.) Put out sugar, artificial sweetener, teas, hot chocolate, cider, cups, plates, napkins, stirrers, spoons, etc, which should all be in the "weekly" cabinet where you got the other supplies. If any of those are running low, check for more in the "spare" cabinets up above. IF ANY OF THOSE ARE RUNNING LOW, TELL THE COOKIE CZAR.
