Dear friends and family -

Our big day is nearly here! We're very excited to see you all and to share our wedding day with you.

Here are some new maps and directions to the ceremony and party. Please call or email us if you have any questions.

Travel safely!
Love,
Lynne & Scott

Dress

Just to remind you of what we said in the invitations: dress casually; be comfortable. But in order to be comfortable, be sure you dress warmly enough -- ideally, you should be prepared with layers. It might be cold at the ceremony, and it might be hot at the party. It could be cool at both.

At the ceremony, don't feel you need to dress up. I (Scott) expect to be the only guy in a suit. I mean that. Really! You wouldn't want to out-dress the groom anyway.

If you feel like wearing aloha/tropical wear at the party, we're thinking we'll probably do that too.

Directions

If you have any trouble with PDF files, please send Lynne an email and she'll send you the maps in a different format.

Wedding Ceremony Directions and Maps

We have chosen our beach site! We will be getting married on Pomponio State Beach which is about 34 miles north of Santa Cruz. The drive to Pomponio (from Santa Cruz) takes about 40 minutes. The ceremony starts around 10am.

We are still asking guests to meet at our designated meeting place at 8:45am the morning of the ceremony, to arrange carpooling and get maps to the ceremony site. There will also be local experts on hand to lead the way.

Here is a map to the pre-ceremony meeting place on Natural Bridges Drive in Santa Cruz. The blue dots show the way to the meeting place.

This is the map from the meeting place to Pomponio State Beach. We will also have copies of this map available that morning.

If you won't be coming from Santa Cruz, here are two additional maps which show how to get to Pomponio State Beach from other locations: From San Francisco and the Peninsula   |   From the San Jose area

Wedding Party Directions and Map

The "official" party is 4pm-9pm but some will be there earlier. Dinner will be around 5:30 or 6:00; there will be vegetarian options (but probably not vegan).

Here are maps and directions from Santa Cruz to the party at Quail Hollow Ranch in Felton.

If you're not coming from Santa Cruz, here are maps and directions from Hwy 17 South.

Hotel Map

Additionally, in case you are staying at one of the hotels where we reserved rooms: here are two maps to the hotels from Hwy 17: to the Ocean Pacific Lodge and to the Mission Inn.

Gifts

We're so happy to have you share our wedding day! That is a gift in itself and we expect no other! Really!

But if you still would like to find a gift for us, we would love and appreciate anything. If you need any ideas, we have registered at Marshall-Fields, Target and Amazon. All of our registries can be viewed on-line or you can go to a Marshall-Fields or Target store. Again, just because we've registered doesn't mean we expect to get all those things, they are just wishlists for ourselves and to help anyone who needs ideas.

Target
Marshall-Fields
Amazon
(Yes, Target and Marshall-Fields are both accessed through Target's site. Marshall-Fields is a subsidiary of Target.)

The registries are under both our names: Scott Seagroves or Lynne Raschke.

If you find something on one of the registries at another store, please feel free to purchase it anywhere that is convenient. If you do that and you'd like to help us keep the registry updated, please email our friend Tim and let him know what you purchased. His email is timpratt ATSYMBOL gmail DOT com except with no spaces and with symbols replacing the ALLCAPS parts. He's agreed to help update and maintain our registries. (That way you won't have to tell us what your gift is!)

Finally, we want to stress that we really are serious when we say that we are expecting no gift other than your presence and good wishes! This is what we would love the most!

Dessert

To our local Santa Cruz friends:

We would love to have a few of you do something special for us on our wedding day. In lieu of a gift, we are asking for donations of delectable desserts! If you are willing, we'd love to have you bring your favorite dessert to share at our party. (Homemade or bought...you needn't be a chef for this!) We think this will be so much nicer and better tasting than a traditional wedding cake.

If you are willing to do bring a dessert that will feed 8-10 people, please email us by June 18th to confirm. This will allow us enough time to arrange for any additional desserts we may need.

Thank you for helping to make our day special!
Lynne & Scott

Save the date

Dear friends and family -

Most of you already know this: we're getting married! If that's a surprise to you, we're really sorry for being out of contact.

We hope this letter finds you well. Our intention is to give you a heads-up, so that you may keep us in mind as you make your summer plans.

If possible, please save the date of 17th July 2004 to attend our wedding and party. We'll be doing it all in the area around Santa Cruz, CA, and we hope to see you here!

With this letter, we're sending some information that you may find useful for travel and lodging. For those of you with web access, please check out www.ucolick.org/~scott/wedding/, where we will also have this information. In addition, we will try to keep that web site updated with more information, maps, and whatever else we can come up with to help you out.

If you have questions that aren't answered by the information we're providing, and you're having trouble finding what you need, please don't hesitate to ask us. Our contact information is below.

One last note: This is a bit unorthodox, but if, for whatever reason, you already know that you can't be with us this summer, it may help our planning if you could go ahead and let us know. Otherwise, be on the lookout for your invitation and RSVP request in May.

We're (obviously) really happy to be doing this, and we'd really like to share it with you. We hope you'll join us this summer!

Best wishes,
Lynne & Scott

Travel to the Santa Cruz area

The nearest airport is San Jose (SJC). Depending on traffic, Santa Cruz is only a 20-40 minute drive. Take I-880 which becomes CA-17 and takes you directly into Santa Cruz. However, you may find good fares to the San Francisco airport (SFO). The drive to Santa Cruz from SFO is about 90 minutes. Take I-380 to I-280 south. Exit onto 85 toward Gilroy, then exit onto 17 south towards Santa Cruz.

Lodging in the Santa Cruz area

We've reserved blocks of rooms at two motels in Santa Cruz for July 16th and 17th. The first is the Ocean Pacific Lodge. This motel is 2 blocks from the ocean and 3 blocks from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The second hotel is the Mission Inn. This motel is further from the beach (about a 5 minute drive) but conveniently located along California Highway 1. Both motels have a full continental breakfast and a jacuzzi! The rooms are reserved under Raschke-Seagroves. You must make your reservation by June 18 in order to receive the block room rates below.

Ocean Pacific Lodge (near the ocean)

2Q: $140.
4 Suites (some sleep 3-4): $189.

831-425-5455
http://www.mission-inn.com
1Q: $110. 1K: $120. 2D: $125. 2Q: $130.

Additionally, since Santa Cruz is a vacation town, there are many, many other hotels and motels in the area. If you'd rather make a reservation on your own, we've included a few other hotels/motels you could try.

(Note: We would generally recommend that you avoid hotels or motels on Riverside Avenue, 2nd Street, San Lorenzo Blvd or below the 500 block of Ocean Street. These areas are also known as "Lower Ocean" and "Beach Flats".)

Also, this is the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce website, where you can find additional hotels and motels: http://www.scccvc.org

Vacation rentals

Finally, another option for lodging is a vacation rental. This option may be more affordable than a hotel/motel if you share a house or condo with others and/or if you plan to stay for several days. (Many require a 1-week rental in the summer.) We've included some websites for you to investigate if you're interested in this option. You can also just try web searching on "Santa Cruz" and "vacation rentals" to find others.

A little on geography: Capitola is the town just east of Santa Cruz. It's about 15 minutes from downtown SC, depending on traffic. Aptos is further east/south...maybe 20 minutes. Rio Del Mar is still further south and La Selva Beach is further south yet. Finally Watsonville and Pajaro Dunes are about 30 minutes (or more depending on traffic) south.
