Current Project

September 15, 2009

I am currently working on Integrated Light Spectra of Extragalactic Globular Clusters. I am learning how to work with echelle spectra and how to derive abundances from the integrated light. The method has been developed by R. Bernstein (my current advisor) and J. Colucci.

The left image is an echelle spactrum from HIRES at Keck Observatory, located in Mauna Kea, Hawaii.

If you are interested in the details see: M31 Globular Cluster Abundances from High-Resolution, Integrated-Light Spectroscopy by Colucci, Bernstein et al.

Freak Fact

This is UCSC's mascot: the Banana Slug. I have encountered them randomly on campus since they are not easy to spot. This one was about 20 cm long.
