It is difficult to turn the knob that adjusts the brightness of
the white light source.
The manual indicates the trick is to loosen the small hex head
screw on the ring holding the knob a little and the knob will
turn easily to adjust brightness, then tighten the hex head
screw to lock in the brightness setting.
This needs a 2mm Allen wrench (the blue metric allen wrenches
are stored in the bottom section of the Adaptive Optics tool box).

Bulb replaced.

Sliding shutter at front of unit was repaired.
However, for convenience the White Light Source remains mounted
inverted.
For some time (pre-2017), the sliding shutter at the front of
the unit had been loose/inoperative: The knurled thumbscrew
normally used to adjust shutter position was ineffective.
Hence, the white light generating unit has been installed
inverted, such that the loose shutter fell open by
default.
