Problem: No heartbeat from dispatcher for AO bench motors no.X / dispatcher heartbeat keyword 'DISPXCLK' is no longer updating

Manifestation:

  • ShaneAO motor control GUI: yellow warning.
  • Warning in shaneao software

       The 'saomot' dispatcher heartbeat keyword 'DISPXCLK' is
       no longer updating; this generally indicates that the
       dispatcher associated with the keyword is hung, and
       needs to be restarted. When that dispatcher is restored
       to service, this GUI will automatically make itself available
       for use. There is no need to close and restart this GUI.

  • Event Monitor: saomon

       No heartbeat from dispatcher AO bench motors no.X

  • Electronic mail:

       ShaneAO: No heartbeat from dispatcher for AO bench motors no.X

       No heartbeat keyword has been received from the
       dispatcher for AO bench motors no.X, (keyword saomot.DISPXCLK) in 1.0 minutes

Solution/Recovery:

  • Query dispatcher(s) status (for completeness):
    user@shred.ucolick.org > ao status saomot
    Service may be reported as running.
  • Re-start relevant dispatcher(s):
    user@shred.ucolick.org > ao restart saomotX
  • Query dispatcher(s) status (for completeness):
    user@shred.ucolick.org > ao status saomot
    Service should be reported as running.
  • In ShaneAO motor control GUI:
    • Ensure Orientation is set to OnTelescope.
    • Actions...; Enable motion.
    • Open detail view for affected function(s)/motor(s) (e.g. Lenset, TTCamX, TTCamY, Fold 1 Rx, Fold 1 Ry) and Re-calibrate.
  • Re-set affected function(s)/motor(s):
    • In fieldsteer.tcl GUI, it may be necessary to issue a Back On-Axis command in NGS mode, LGS mode or both. This should position WFS steer 1 Rx, WFS steer 1 Ry, WFS steer 2 Rx and WFS steer 2 Ry to nominal on-axis values.
    • Refer to Motor Control GUI Start-up Procedure for current nominal on-axis positions.

Cause:

  • Temporary drop in network communications.
  • Slewing telescope.
