Problem: Keyheader Check / ao keyheader

Manifestation(s):

  • Electronic mail (from turk@ucolick.org with subject: Keyheader Check with content of the following form:

       saomot.ORIENTATION: OnTelescope

       Missing keyheader heartbeats on covert.ucolick.org:

       Heartbeat lost	met3.DISP0CLK
       Heartbeat lost	slinelamp.LLPHEART
       Heartbeat lost	shawcs.DISPCLK

       If the above services are running, then the problem
       probably lies with aokeyheader, which you should
       restart on covert, like so:
       ao restart keyheader

       (This script ran as user turk on host covert.ucolick.org)

Solution/Recovery:

  • user@covert > ao restart keyheader
  • If response is of the following form:

       ao_keyheader : turk sending SIGTERM to pid: 3537
       ..
       Failed to stop ao_keyheader: waited for 2 seconds, but some of pids={ 3537 } were still running.

    Then, as root, kill pre-existing process:

    root@covert > kill -9 <PID>

    And, once again as user, attempt to re-start the process:

    user@covert > ao restart keyheader

Cause(s):

  • Intermittent network/communication connectivity (e.g. damaged ethernet cable).

Reference(s):

  • None.
