SHARCS Problem: Long Write To Disk

Problem Description:

Following completion of exposure, sharcs_fe takes an inordinately long time (>30 s) to write fits file to disk.

Manifestation:

Status field in sharcs_fe GUI remains purple for > 30 s (while writing to disk). sharcs_fe may be unresponsive during this time.

Work-around:

  • Attempts to re-start sharcs_fe (sharcs UI) and services on stealthie.ucolick.org are unsuccessful.
  • In sharcs_fe: Windows...; Window, enter values of a sub-window (e.g. start x = 915, end x = 1264, start y = 585, end y = 935).
  • Consequences of windowing:
    1. Many of the FITS keywords are not gathered as normal, which saves time with writing, as well as many fewer pixels being written to disk. Advise observer to keep even more careful log than normal.
    2. Bias/dark charcteristics of detector vary depending on windowing. Consequently, bias/dark calibrations may have to be taken by manually.

Cause:

Unknown. Appears to follow reboot of bigeye.ucolick.org.
