SHARCS Problem: Lost Server

Problem Description:

Solution/Recovery:

Level 1

• user@covert.ucolick.org > ao status sharcs - Check if Sharcs is running.
• user@covert.ucolick.org > ao restart sharcs - (Re-)start Sharcs.
• user@covert.ucolick.org > sharcs_fe - Start Sharcs GUI.
• Select Windows menu in Sharcs GUI.
• Select Setup.
• Execute Connect.
• Execute Init.

Level 2

• Connect to stealthie from covert via the rdesktop protocol:

  user@covert > rdesktop stealthie

• Verify whether Sidecar ASIC IDE and ColdSidecar Server are running.

  If necessary, (re-)start Sidecar ASIC IDE and ColdSidecar Server, according to standard start-up instructions.

• In sharcs_fe GUI: Windows... Setup... Connect; Init.
• For completeness, stop and re-start shaneao software (which may also necessitate a re-start of peeko).
• Take test exposure on science camera to verify recovery.

Cause:

• Problem with the samba export of the drive from Linux machine covert onto which the WinXP machine stealthie writes the FITS files.
• Occurs sporadically following attempts to modify detector windowing.
