SHARCS Problem: stealthie --- covert disk

Manifestation:

After a couple minutes, the following error:

 
   An error occurred while reconnecting Z: to \\covert\public 
   Microsoft Windows Network : The local device name is already in use. 
   This connection has not been restored. 
   

Solution/Recovery:

Level 1:

1. Shut-down and re-start smb on covert:

   /etc/init.d/smb restart

2. If the previous step is unsuccessful:

   Reboot stealthie and try previous step again.

3. If the previous step is unsuccessful:

   Reboot covert and try first step again.

Level 2:

1.  
      covert> cd /local/smbshare 
      covert> ls and whatnot to make the blasted links resolve. 
      

Cause:

• It appears that the problem is the symbolic links that are in \\covert\public (covert:/local/smbshare) which point to all the other data-taking places:

   
     hamcat -> /net/dusty/local/image/data/cat 
     hamilton -> /net/dusty/local/image/data 
     hamshane -> /net/dusty/local/image/data/shane 
     kastblue -> /net/kablooie/local/images/data 
     kastred -> /net/kaready/local/images/data 
     nickel -> /net/noir/local/data 
     shard -> /net/shard/data 
     

• Provoked by a power cycle of ShaneAO + ShARCS system.
• covert smb config allows access to stealthie. On covert, smbstatus says that it has connections from stealthie.
