Procedure: LGS Spectroscopic Acquisition
Introduction
Short description of the objective of the procedure(s).
Standard Procedure:
1: Pre-alignment using 9th magnitude star
-
Open loops in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
-
Back On-Axis in fieldsteer.tcl GUI,
ensures field steer motors restored to on-axis position.
-
Back to target in Offset from Target GUI,
ensures no telescope offsets.
-
Open loops in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
-
Mirror position 2 in sdiagmir_fe GUI.
Acquire 9th magnitude alignment star in guide camera.
-
Load shutdown file in lsm.tcl (Laser Shutdown Monitor).
-
Check TUB rotation (74.0) in aotelcoc.
-
For corresponding science target, determine TUB(Slit) by setting Desired PA in fieldsteer.tcl GUI.
-
Rotate TUB to TUB(Slit) value and (re-)place target on boresight.
-
Mirror position 3 in sdiagmir_fe GUI.
Close TT loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
Allow to offload.
Open loops.
-
Mirror position 2 in sdiagmir_fe GUI.
Propagate and steer laser to target/boresight.
-
Mirror position 3 in sdiagmir_fe GUI.
Close TT loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
Close Uplink TT loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
Check offload values.
Close WFS loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
-
If desired, take optimization exposures via sharcs_fe GUI,
with filters configured via ShARCS wheel control.
2: Tip-Tilt Star Acquisition
-
Open loops in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
-
Back On-Axis in fieldsteer.tcl GUI,
ensures field steer motors restored to on-axis position.
-
Back to target in Offset from Target GUI,
ensures no telescope offsets.
-
Open loops in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
-
Mirror position 2 in sdiagmir_fe GUI.
Acquire Tip-Tilt star in guide camera.
-
Load shutdown file in lsm.tcl (Laser Shutdown Monitor).
-
Check TUB rotation and TUB(Slit) value in aotelcoc.
-
Mirror position 3 in sdiagmir_fe GUI.
Close TT loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
Close Uplink TT loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
Check offload values.
Close WFS loop in ShaneAO loop control GUI.
3: Offset from Tip-Tilt Star to Science Target
For the following it is recommended to inspect displays WITHOUT
badpix map in Image Browser and with reference to
FullImage in sharcsdisp.
-
Use Telescope Move in fieldsteer.tcl GUI to steer
science target into ShARCS field-of-view.
-
Take test image(s) via sharcs_fe GUI,
with filters configured via ShARCS wheel control.
Determine centroid coordinates of science target.
4: Position Science Target Coincident with Slit Center
For the following it is recommended to inspect displays WITHOUT
badpix map in Image Browser and with reference to
FullImage in sharcsdisp.
-
Take through-slit image(s) via sharcs_fe GUI,
with slit configured via ShARCS wheel control.
Determine center coordinates of slit.
-
Use Move Tel in Image Browser
(altertnatively Move Star in fieldsteer.tcl)
to position target on center coordinates of slit.
5: Execute Science Exposures, with Dithering Along Slit
For the following it is recommended to inspect displays WITHOUT
badpix map in Image Browser and with reference to
FullImage in sharcsdisp.
-
Execute exposures at 3 positions (starting position and
1 adjacent position approx 2 arcsec each side of starting
position):
user@shard.ucolick.org:/local/u/user/observers/lgs/scripts/slitpa-lgs 1
The integer argument dictates how many repeat exposures should be taken
at each of the 3 positions along the slit.
