Procedure: Shutdown

End of Night Shutdown Procedure:

  1. InShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) GUI: Ensure all loops open: open().
  2. If LGS mode:
    • Notify LGS operations complete by telephone:
      • USAF Space Command (805-605-6546).
      • Call FAA (916-366-4019).
    • In Lamp control (slinelamp_fe) GUI: Ensure Spare2 (uplink high voltage power supply) set to Off.
    • In Laser Shutdown Monitor (lsm.tcl/LSM.tcl) GUI: File...; Exit
    • In Focus Tracking (saoWFSFocusTrack.tcl) GUI: Disable WFSFocus Track.
    • In ShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) GUI: Ensure Uplink set to OFF.
    • In ShaneAO motor control (saomot_gui) GUI:
      • Ensure Sodium filter set to Out
        (requires Uplink OFF).
      • Set WFS focus to +4475 load encoder counts
        (Open detail window and verify position: +22.38 mm).
  3. In aopococ GUI: Ensure TUB = 74.0 degrees.
  4. In Field steering (fieldsteer.tcl) GUI: Set field steer motors back to their nominal, on-axis positions.
    • Disable Move Telescope and Auto Close Loops.
    • Enable LGS.
    • Select Back On-Axis
    • Enable NGS.
    • Select Back On Axis.
    • Confirm loops open.
  5. In ShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) GUI:
    • Confirm loops open.
    • Set TTcam rate to 500 Hz.
    • Set WFScam rate to 500 Hz.
  6. In ShaneAO Power Controls (saopower_ui) GUI:
    • Ensure Heartbeat failsafe [B6] set to OFF.
    • Ensure 635nm laser diode [B7] set to OFF.
    • Ensure Whitelight [B8] set to OFF.

End of Run Shutdown Procedure:

  1. Perform End of Night Shutdown procedure above.
  2. In ShaneAO Power Controls (saopower_ui) GUI:
    • Ensure MEMS Heartbeat failsafe [B6] set to OFF.
    • Ensure Woofer [B5] set to OFF.
  3. In an xterm: Turn timer back on for slinelamp by issuing the command:

    modify -s slinelamp LLPTEN=on

  4. In Focus Tracking (saoWFSFocusTrack.tcl) GUI: Quit.
  5. In Field steering (fieldsteer.tcl) GUI: QUIT.
  6. In NGSfieldsteer.tcl GUI (usually not used, so may not be running): QUIT.
  7. In Peeko terminal, exit the Wave Front Sensor (WFS) camera display:
    • Place cursor in window to make the active window.
    • Hit return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
    • At the python prompt, enter the following command: exit()
  8. TTPeeko terminal, exit the Tip-Tilt (TT) camera display:
    • Place cursor in window to make the active window.
    • Hit return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
    • At the python prompt, enter the following command: exit()
  9. In ShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) GUI: select: File...;Quit.
  10. CAUTION: Wait until Dark calibrations are completed on ShARCS before continuing...
  11. In shaneao terminal, exit the underlying shaneao process(es):
    • Place cursor in window to make the active window.
    • Hit return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
    • At the python prompt, enter the following command: exit()
  12. In Messages terminal, close the message log on the real-time computer/controller (RTC):
    • Place cursor in window to make the active window.
      • Simultaneously hit Cntrl and c keys.
  13. In ShaneAO motor control (saomot_gui) GUI: Select File...; Quit.
  14. In ShARCS front end data taking (sharcs_fe) GUI: Select Quit.
  15. In ShARCS filter wheels (saowheels_gui) GUI: Select Quit.
  16. In Image Browser (sharcsdisplay) GUI: Select File...; Quit.
  17. In Script (scriptproc.tcl) GUI: File...; Quit.
  18. In Event Sounds (Sao eventsounds) GUI: Select File...; Quit.
  19. Remotely connect to the (Windows) ShARCS detector control machine (e.g. stealthie) to stop Cold Sidecar and Sidecar ASIC servers.
    • In an xterm window connect to the (linux) data management machine: (e.g. ssh user@covert.ucolick.org).
    • As user on the (linux) data management machine use the rdesktop protocol to connect to the (Windows) detector control machine, e.g.

      rdesktop stealthie.ucolick.org

    • After access, there should be 2 processes running (they may be minimized at the bottom of the rdesktop session):
      1. Select/place cursor in Cold Sidecar window to make it the active window:
        • Hit Cntrl and c keys simultaneously while the Cold Sidecar is the active window.
        • After a brief moment, process interface should collapse.
      2. Select/place cursor in Sidecar ASIC Integrated Development Environment window to make it the active window:
        • Click the red square icon to Stop HAL.
        • Click the X in the window manager to close the Sidecar ASIC IDE window.
        • When prompted if you want to save, click No
    • Shutdown the (Windows) detector control machine:
      • Select the Windows Start option.
      • Select the Run... option.
      • In the entry box type shutdown -s and execute the command.
  20. In an xterm: Disable ShARCS temperature monitoring by issuing the following command:

    modify -s saomon SH_BASICDIS="today 14:00:00" SH_COMBODIS="today 14:00:00"

    Substituting an appropriate time to re-start monitoring.

  21. In ShARCS pressure and temperature monitor (sharcspump_gui) GUI: Select File...; Quit.
  22. In ShaneAO Power Controls (saopower_ui) GUI: Ensure power OFF to:
    • Ensure ShARCS filter wheel [C2] set to OFF.
    • Ensure TT filter wheel [C1] set to OFF.
    • Ensure WFS Camera [B4] set to OFF.
    • Ensure TT Camera [B3] set to OFF.
    • Ensure musher [B2] set to OFF.
    • Ensure real [B1] set to OFF.
    • Ensure stealthie [A7] set to OFF.
    • Ensure Jade card 5V power supply [A6] set to OFF.
    • Ensure 12V servo power supply [A5] set to OFF.
    CAUTION: The following must be executed in exact sequence to ensure the 24V brake power supply is turned off before the Galil motor controllers (since the break is on when there is no power to it). These actions prevent the TTCamX stage from falling under gravity (thus blocking access for subsequent dewar fills) when power is removed (Issue 10624).
    • Ensure 24V motor power supply [A2] set to OFF.
    • Ensure 24V brake power supply [A3] set to OFF.
    • Ensure Galil DMC 40x0 motor controllers [A1] set to OFF.
    • Ensure 5V DC Logic power supply [A4] set to OFF.
    • [Optional] Lantronixes set to OFF.
    • [Optional] Ion pump set to OFF.
  23. In ShaneAO Power Controls (saopower_ui) GUI: Select File...; Quit.
  24. Notify by electronic mail to:

    mh-techs@ucolick.org 

     
   ShaneAO is ready for removal from telescope

  25. Disconnect ethernet, power and laser uplink cables from ShaneAO.
  26. Remove ShaneAO from telescope.
