Procedure: Shutdown

End-Of-Night Shutdown Procedure:

Open loops, reset rates...

In ShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) GUI:

  • Ensure all loops open: open().
  • Set TTcam rate to 500 Hz.
  • Set WFScam rate to 500 Hz.
If LGS...
  • Notify FAA & USSF of completed LGS operations within 15 minutes:

    FAA: Telephone (916-366-4019).

    USSF: Via lgsStatusReports.tcl GUI: Quick Look Report.

  • Ensure Spare2 (uplink high voltage power supply) set to Off via Lamp control (slinelamp_fe) GUI.
  • Exit Laser Shutdown Monitor (lsm.tcl/LSM.tcl) GUI via File...; Exit
  • Disable WFSFocus Track via Focus Tracking (saoWFSFocusTrack.tcl) GUI.
  • Ensure Uplink set to OFF via ShaneAO loop control (saocon_gui) GUI.
  • In ShaneAO motor control (saomot_gui) GUI:
    • Ensure Sodium filter set to Out
      (requires Uplink OFF).
    • Ensure WFS focus to +4475 load encoder counts
      (Open detail window and verify position: +22.38 mm).
Ensure TUB = 74.0 degrees...

Ensure field steer motors at nominal, on-axis positions...

In Field steering (fieldsteer.tcl) GUI:

  • Disable Move Telescope and Auto Close Loops.
  • Enable LGS.
  • Select Back On-Axis.
  • Enable NGS.
  • Select Back On Axis..
  • Re-confirm loops open.
Execute daily_shutdown.tcl script...

  • Exit laserOffload.tcl.
  • Exit LSM.tcl.
Verify slinelamp_fe timer enabled...

In an xterm: Enable slinelamp timer by issuing the command:

modify -s slinelamp LLPTEN=on

In Peeko and TTPeeko, terminals, exit the Wave Front Sensor (WFS) and Tip-Tilt camera displays:

  • Place cursor in window to make the active window.
  • Select return/enter key to acquire a python ( >>> ) prompt.
  • At the python prompt, enter the following command: exit()

Data-taking services...

Remotely connect to the (Windows) ShARCS detector control machine (e.g. stealthie) to stop Cold Sidecar and Sidecar ASIC servers.

  • In an xterm window connect to the (linux) data management machine: (e.g. ssh user@covert.ucolick.org).
  • As user on the (linux) data management machine use the rdesktop protocol to connect to the (Windows) detector control machine, e.g.

    rdesktop stealthie.ucolick.org

  • After access, there should be 2 processes running (they may be minimized at the bottom of the rdesktop session):
    1. Select/place cursor in Cold Sidecar window to make it the active window:
      • Hit Cntrl and c keys simultaneously while the Cold Sidecar is the active window.
      • After a brief moment, process interface should collapse.
    2. Select/place cursor in Sidecar ASIC Integrated Development Environment window to make it the active window:
      • Click the red square icon to Stop HAL.
      • Click the X in the window manager to close the Sidecar ASIC IDE window.
      • When prompted if you want to save, click No
  • Shutdown the (Windows) detector control machine:
    • Select the Windows Start option.
    • Select the Run... option.
    • In the entry box type shutdown -s and execute the command.
Execute: /u/user/observers/lgs/scripts/end_run_shutdown.tcl script...

In an xterm:

/u/user/observers/lgs/scripts/end_run_shutdown.tcl

Ensure ShARCS temperature monitoring disabled...

In an xterm: Disable ShARCS temperature monitoring by issuing the following command:

modify -s saomon SH_BASICDIS="today 14:00:00" SH_COMBODIS="today 14:00:00"

Substituting an appropriate time to re-start monitoring.

Ensure selected outlets powered OFF...

In ShaneAO Power Controls (saopower_ui) GUI:

  • Ensure ShARCS filter wheel [C2] set to OFF.
  • Ensure TT filter wheel [C1] set to OFF.
  • Ensure WFS Camera [B4] set to OFF.
  • Ensure TT Camera [B3] set to OFF.
  • Ensure musher [B2] set to OFF.
  • Ensure real [B1] set to OFF.
  • Ensure stealthie [A7] set to OFF.
  • Ensure Jade card 5V power supply [A6] set to OFF.
  • Ensure 12V servo power supply [A5] set to OFF.
CAUTION: The following must be executed in exact sequence to ensure the 24V brake power supply is turned off before the Galil motor controllers (since the break is on when there is no power to it). These actions prevent the TTCamX stage from falling under gravity (thus blocking access for subsequent dewar fills) when power is removed (Issue 10624).
  • Ensure 24V motor power supply [A2] set to OFF.
  • Ensure 24V brake power supply [A3] set to OFF.
  • Ensure Galil DMC 40x0 motor controllers [A1] set to OFF.
  • Ensure 5V DC Logic power supply [A4] set to OFF.
  • [Optional] Lantronixes set to OFF.
  • [Optional] Ion pump set to OFF.

In ShaneAO Power Controls (saopower_ui) GUI: Select File...; Quit.

ShARCS pressure and temperature monitor (sharcspump_gui) GUI...

In ShARCS pressure and temperature monitor (sharcspump_gui) GUI: Select File...; Quit.

Shutdown/Exit any remaining software in VNCs.
