Dear Lick Observatory 2017B AO observers,
We invite you to participate in our Uranus and Neptune observing program this
semester, by taking an hour of observations during your night. This is a
continuation of a similar program started in 2016B and 2017A.
The program, ShARCS-NGS program S000 (PI Tollefson, UCB graduate student), is
run entirely on a "Voluntary ToO" basis by Lick AO observers during the 2017B
semester. The program takes one hour to run, and images Uranus and Neptune in
H and Ks bands with AO (NGS). In 2016B and 2017A, we received data on almost
three dozen nights and have gotten a number of excellent images! We hope this
continues through 2017.
On your scheduled observing nights, please consider whether you would be able
to dedicate an hour to run our program. Our targets are bright, and the
program is well-suited for times such as twilight or marginal weather - we
hope in particular that you will consider running the program during times
such as these that may not be suitable for your own science objectives. We
offer co-authorship on publications resulting from the data according to the
policy described in the attached pdf.
Information about the program, including detailed observing instructions, can
be found in the attached pdf. The document is also posted on our program
website, which includes ephemerides for all 2017B AO nights:
http://mtham.ucolick.org/NeptuneUranus/
We would be grateful for your participation (or continued participation) in
this program. Let me know if you would like email reminders before your
observing nights, and feel free to contact me with any questions!
Sincerely,
Joshua Tollefson (UC Berkeley)
