Spectroscopic Wavelength Calibration

  • Install Argon arc lamp (manually).
  • Set Cal X and Cal Y to White Light
  • Use Cal X and Cal Y detail panels realtive move with values of a few 100 encoder counts to maximize WFS illumination
  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for K-band spectroscopy:

    Filter#1 = CaF-Kgrism and Filter#2 = K and Aperture = Slit-100mm-H

    For Slit-100um-H, the target encoder value is: 0 ± 4.

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 arc lamp spectra, seeking to achieve a few hundred to a few thousand counts (not exceeding 20000 counts) in several arc lines.

    Example exposure times (2015) in range 1.5 to 15.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for H-band spectroscopy:

    Filter#1 = H and Filter#2 = HGrism and Aperture = Slit-100mm-H

    For Slit-100um-H, the target encoder value is: 0 ± 4.

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 arc lamp spectra, seeking to achieve a few hundred to a few thousand counts (not exceeding 20000 counts) in several lines.

    Example exposure times (2015) in range 1.5 to 6.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • Set Cal Y to Open
  • Remove Argon lamp (manually).

Spectroscopic Flat Field Calibration

  • Set Cal X to White Light
  • Set Cal Y to Open
  • Set sdiagmir_fe to position 3
  • Ensure ambient enclosure illumination is OFF and primary mirror cover OPEN
  • In slinelamp_fe set Sup_Blue Dimmer to 25
  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for H-band spectroscopy:

    Filter#1 = H and Filter#2 = HGrism and Aperture = Slit-100mm-H

    For Slit-100um-H, the target encoder value is: 0 ± 4.

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 spectroscopic flat field frame, seeking to achieve a few hundred to a few thousand counts (not exceeding 20000 counts) in several lines.

    Example exposure times (2015) circa 18.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for K-band spectroscopy:

    Filter#1 = CaF-Kgrism and Filter#2 = K and Aperture = Slit-100mm-H

    For Slit-100um-H, the target encoder value is: 0 ± 4.

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 spectroscopic flat field frame, seeking to achieve a few hundred to a few thousand counts (not exceeding 20000 counts) in several lines.

    Example exposure times (2015) circa 18.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • In slinelamp_fe set Sup_Blue Dimmer to OFF

Imaging Flat Field Calibration

  • Set Cal X to White Light
  • Set Cal Y to Open
  • Set sdiagmir_fe to position 3
  • Ensure ambient enclosure illumination is OFF and primary mirror cover OPEN
  • In slinelamp_fe set Red to On
  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for (typically) Ks-band imaging:

    Filter#1 = Ks and Filter#2 = Open and Aperture = Open

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 flat fields, seeking to achieve a few thousand counts (not exceeding circa 20000 counts).

    Example exposure times (2015) circa 12.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for (typically) H-band imaging:

    Filter#1 = H and Filter#2 = Open and Aperture = Open

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 flat fields, seeking to achieve a few thousand counts (not exceeding circa 20000 counts).

    Example exposure times (2015) circa 12.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • Configure filter and aperture wheels for (typically) J-band imaging:

    Filter#1 = J and Filter#2 = Open and Aperture = Open

  • Set Window to Full Frame.

    Set NCoadds to 1.

    Expose a minimum of 3 flat fields, seeking to achieve a few thousand counts (not exceeding circa 20000 counts).

    Example exposure times (2015) circa 40.0 seconds.

    Record file, configuration, exposure time.

  • In slinelamp_fe set Red to Off
