When I was young, it was traditional to expect BBC2 to be a couple of
minutes behind. Given the intended and actual market splits and the way the
BBC is funded, this was not a marketing issue.

At the other end of the scale, BBC radio transmits the "Greenwich Time
Signal" on many channels on many hours, so the public expects it to be
correct.
